kyumi design

Kyumi is a one-person interior design studio based in Chicago. I'm Sabrina, and I founded it in 2025 after spending years developing an eye for what makes a space actually work, not just look good in photos.

Kyumi is my middle name and in Korean it means "beautiful star." The name is what I hope to capture in every project: the thing that makes a room worth being in.

I work with a small roster of clients at a time. Most of them are busy, have accumulated a home that's functional but unresolved, and want someone they can trust to move it forward without a lot of hand-holding on their end.

I handle design, sourcing, and floor plans. I source from an active collection of vintage and found pieces, which means I'm not starting from a catalog every time. Everything is flat-fee with a defined scope so there are no surprises.

If you want to know if we're a good fit, the best place to start is the contact page. If you have an interest in my eye, I keep an up-to-date Pinterest board of inspiration you can find here. I love a huge variety of styles ranging from modernist to rustic, with a strong belief in blending design systems and focusing on the structural beauties that already exists in your space.

How it Works

Every project starts the same way: a short phone call to make sure we're aligned on what you need and how we'll spend our time together. From there, the process depends on which service you've chosen.

    • You send me photos of things you love before we meet — furniture, rooms, objects, anything that captures your eye.

    • We block a minimum of 2 hours on-site together.

    • We walk through the space live, making decisions in real time — what stays, what moves, what goes.

    • Everything gets resolved in one visit. No follow-up homework for you.

    • I flag anything worth selling or moving to a better spot in the home.

  • Starts with everything in The Edit, then continues:

    • I take what we uncovered back to my studio.

    • I put together a design brief, mood board, and a set of recommended enhancements.

    • We meet again for a formal presentation of the direction.

    • You leave with a clear, actionable plan you can implement on your own timeline.

  • Starts with everything in The Consult, then continues:

    • I develop 2 to 3 distinct design directions for you to choose from.

    • Once a direction is selected, I coordinate all implementation — painters, carpenters, movers, sourcing.

    • We check in at 2 to 3 points throughout the process so you're never out of the loop.

    • You stay hands-off. I stay hands-on.
